13 noviembre NoiseLast night, our bible study group studied the video clip about noise. In the modern time, there are all kinds of noise everywhere all the time: TV, radio, cars passing by, kids yelling, and even the billboards along the highway (that is visual noise). We are so easily get distracted and lose focus. We are also missing quiet time when we can calm our heart, clear our thoughs, so that we can hear God's voice better. Noise becomes noise only when it draws our attention, i.e. distracts us. There is noise all the time, but we don't notice it all the time, because we don't always get distracted. Therefore, what matters is not the noise itself, but the distraction it causes. Our focus is like a balloon. Noise is like the wind blowing by. The wind can blow the balloon away, but only if you don't hold it tight. Even if there is no wind, if you let go your balloon, it will still fly away. When we are distracted and lose our focus, we should not blame it all to the noise. It is more of our fault that we don't hold our focus tight enough. So trying to block the noise may help, but what can really solve the problem is to hold tight our focus. We all know it is not easy to hold our focus tight. But do we notice that when we do things we truely love, like watching your favorite movie or watching the Packers beating the Vikings (yes, they did today There is spiritual noise as well. Things we want and problems we are facing are all drawing our attention away from God. We have our eyes on the things in the world, and we lose our sight of God. It is not that we should not be wanting things in the physical world or finding solutions to problems in our physical life. We live our life on earth for the purpose of God, so we need to let it go through God and let God guide us through. It is like we are driving in Chicago downtown (assuming it is very confusing). There are signs, stree names, shops, buildings and people everywhere you look at. You are searching for hints for direction, but you may get more distraction and frustration than useful information. God is like the GPS system on your car's dashboard. You are still driving the car, minding the road and traffic, but let the GPS guide you. GPS knows all the roads and the turns all the way to the destination, but you can only see a block or two ahead of you. So put your trust to the GPS and let it tell you which way to go and where to turn. Now when you look at the surrounding buildings, people, signs and shops, you are not pressured to look for directions and get frustrated, instead you can start enjoying them. You will be amazed, wow, Chicago is beautiful. So is life.
03 noviembre Great Tips for Getting Great Battery LifeOrdinary AA or other standard size rechargeable cells are Ni-Cd or Ni-MH and want to be 100% discharged before they are charged. Charge Often! Modern Li-ion batteries love to be charged often. They don't like being fully discharged. This is completely opposite from older style batteries. Alternate Between Two Batteries After every use, put the battery on the charger and take the second battery from your case and put it in your camera. Don't bother if you've used it for only a few shots or used less than 10% of the charge. I don't know the exact numbers, but you'll get about four times as many charge cycles out of them if you only use 50% of the charge each time, and twenty times as many cycles if you only use 25% of the charge each time.Summary: Charging Li-ion batteries is like lunch: do it early and often. http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/battery-life.htm Google Reader -- What a great tool!I just came across Google Reader, and wow, what a great tool. “Every time you forget that character is one of God’s purposes for your life, you will become frustrated by your circumstances.” — Rick Warren
... And the reason for this is two-fold. First, life by nature is difficult and hardship produces character in us as we meet life’s challenges with the Holy Spirit; and second, when we go through ordinary hardship and difficulty the reality of the presence of God in our lives can be more easily seen, because the hope and confidence of Christ in our lives is in direct contrast to our situation, making God easier to spot. Or as Paul goes on to say: “Our lives are at constant risk for Jesus’ sake, which makes Jesus’ life all the more evident in us.” (2 Corinthians 4:11 MSG)
... And if life is difficult for you right now, rejoice in your opportunity to grow. ... http://www.purposedrivenlife.com/devarchive.aspx?ARCHIVEID=139As Rick Warren said in his book, relationship and character are far more important than money and other material stuffs on earth. Because relationship (with God and people) and character last in eternity, but all the achievement and wealth you have on earth are temporary and willl vanish when your body dies. Every day is an opportunity to build up the relationship and character. We should enjoy it and make the best of it.
01 noviembre Worship on the goBy John Fischer God doesn’t desire more of our time sometimes; he desires more of our attention all the time. Ever feel frustrated because you hear messages about getting closer to God and you definitely desire this for yourself, but you are inundated with so much to do already that this only makes you feel guilty because you are too busy for God? I think we all feel this at one time or another. Some of you may need to carve some time out of your busy schedule for more specific time to be with God, but that isn’t necessarily the only answer to this question. Look at the following Scriptures: “I have set the Lord always before me.” Psalm 16:8 NIV Reading these words makes you wonder if these are the words of a monk who had nothing else to do but devote himself to God. Actually, they are the words of David, king of Israel, a great ruler and warrior. How did he manage to run a nation and keep his eyes on the Lord at all times? The only conclusion is that he did this while he did everything else. It’s a continual awareness of God that we are talking about here, not necessarily more time devoted to spiritual pursuits. I once saw a sign that read: “Your god is what you pay attention to.” You see, I believe you can pay attention to God while you are doing everything else. It’s all about doing everything for God and seeing God in everything we do. It’s about bringing God into the boardroom, the exercise room, the living room, and the bedroom. Now of course he’s already in all these places but we’re talking about being aware of his being there at all times. That’s what it means to set the Lord always before us. Worship is a frame of mind that always has God in the picture. We don’t need church, or Bible study, or devotions to remind us about the Lord if we’re already aware of him all the time. These opportunities then become more precious to us because we can devote all our attention to that which we have been aware of all along. http://www.purposedrivenlife.com/devarchive.aspx?ARCHIVEID=137 |
